About Us

A Historic Beginning

Rockwell’s Red Lion Restaurant calls a historic building home, originally constructed for the First National Bank of Elizabeth in 1906. After the bank’s sudden closure in 1913, the building hosted a drug store and later stood vacant. In 1980, the Rockwell family fully renovated it, giving new life to this landmark and opening its doors as a welcoming spot for quality meals and community gatherings.
From Dream to Reality

From Dream to Reality

Orrie and Norma Rockwell often dreamed of opening their own restaurant, inspired by years in the floral business and dining out frequently. When the old Cochenour & Miller Drug Store building became available in 1979, they purchased it and, with family support and careful renovations, transformed the space into Rockwell’s Red Lion Restaurant, bringing their vision of home-style dining to Elizabeth, PA.

Overcoming Challenges

Tragedy struck with the unexpected loss of Norma, nearly ending the dream. Orrie pressed on, supported by his daughters Lynn and Cee Cee, and officially opened Rockwell’s on May 14, 1980. The restaurant quickly became a local favorite, serving hearty breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, meeting the town’s need for a warm, family-friendly place where guests could enjoy meals and special celebrations alike.

Culinary Growth & Legacy

The restaurant’s evolution continued when Orrie III attended Johnson & Wales Culinary School, bringing new expertise in 1992. With his skills, Rockwell’s transformed from a family-style eatery to a sought-after dining destination, serving seasonal dishes and timeless favorites. For over 45 years, Rockwell’s Red Lion has welcomed guests near and far, committed to great food, service, and a friendly, inviting atmosphere.
